Tin Description: The second all-Virginia blend in the Hearth & Home line. We wanted to do a tobacco that would feature the "dark side" of Virginia, so we started with a dark toasted red Virginia and added a matured red Virginia along with an excellent red Virginia ribbon-cut, and then we rounded it out with a stoved black Virginia. The result is a deep, rich blend with a smooth sweetness and a dark dried fruit character.

A Sleeper VA

A fellow pipe smoker recently sent me a unopened tin. Upon opening the tin I was greeted with a tin note that was a deep sweetness. Inspecting the leaf I could somewhat easily identify the different VA componets.

I fired up a bowl and for the first ten minutes or so I was greeted with natural sweetness a good VA will provide. After that the remainder of the bowl fell kind of flat.

After smoking additional bowls of this tobacco in pipes I dedicate to strictly straight VA's, I'm finding the natural sweetness of the VA's lasting all the way down the bowl and there is nothing left but a white ash.

I find this tobacco smokes good fresh out of the tin, but I also have a feeling that letting it age in the tin for a year or two will make this tobacco sublime. Hence is why I recently ordered 15 tins. Some to smoke now and some to smoke a few years down the road. This is why I titled this review "A Sleeper VA". Its another winner from Russ.
