Peterson Summer TIme 2010

Very Pleasant Tin Size: 100g Tin Age: New Tin Description: Black
Cavendish, combined with golden and dark Virginia in different cuts and a large
proportion of hand rubbed Virginia flake, makes this a wonderful blend.
Experience the summer on your palate with this superb pipe tobacco offering a
rich aroma of delicious peach and a hint of vanilla and juicy melons. This
blend has a lovely mellow taste and a very pleasant room note. While the tin aroma was astounding on this one, the smoke
itself did not quite reach the full flavor profile of the scent. Do not be
deterred, however, as this mélange does deliver a refreshing aromatic
experience with its unique combination of peach, vanilla and melon. Tin: Peterson
excels, and only gets better, at its tin presentations for the seasonal blends.
The lighthearted artwork of grilling implements and a pipe in a field of grass
sets the tone for this blithely indulgent mixture. A characteristically
Peterson mottle of dark & light leaf in ribbon, flake and cube cuts is a
bit muted compared to the saturated colors of the Holiday 2010 blend. The tin
aroma is redolent of peach and melon, and will make the mouth water in
anticipation. Char: On the
char the fruity flavors jump to life, and one would be well-advised to partake
of this with a tall glass of unsweet iced tea, a back porch and 80-degree
weather to gain the full experience. Like opening a jar of peach preserves,
with earthy grass & dandelion wine undertones. Top: The
topping, for all its exquisite accuracy in reproducing the aroma of melon and
peach, burns off rather quickly. Fortunately one is left with a very good
tobacco, particularly the Virginia flake. Its sweetness and depth carry the
blend after the light, and the smoke takes on a more casual fruity vanilla,
caramel and toffee stance. Mid: The
mid-bowl will reveal more of the base components of the mix, albeit with
limited interplay of flavor. The Cavendish is a sturdy base for the bright and
flake Virginias, and the fruity caramel notes persist on a very good balance
between casing and pure tobacco flavors. Finish: In
its finer moments the smoke has taken on a haunting quality of the memory of
summers past, and finishes to the bottom with little dottle. Light enough to
smoke several bowls through, and quite pleasant for your companions. Room Note:
Bystanders will be cordially intrigued by the aroma of the smoke, and though it
does not hit the tin note exactly, it is a delectable fume of fruity sweetness
that will be appreciated by all. Overall:
While a unique take on an aromatic, it does not reach the heights of brilliance
that other Peterson offerings have. It is, however, a Peterson blend, and the
quality of the tobacco is not to be underestimated—all in all a fine smoke, if
not one for the hall of fame. RATING: 3.3 RECOMMENDED IF FOUND |
