Plums and Rums

This was my first flake. Therefore I wanted to give it some time, and some more experiences with other flakes, before I reviewed it. Now, I believe I can better give my impressions.

-Tin Note-
Opening this tin was pure joy. The strong sent of sweet prunes with a spicy after-note of rum is immediately desirable. The smell from the tin was definitely the high-point of my experience.

My tin was slightly wet. It showed in the first few bowls in that it would gurgle a bit. However, it seemed like the flakes dried out pretty quickly the longer the tin was open.

-Charring Light-
The taste of rum and plum is very forward - almost exactly as it smells in the tin note.

Besides the initial notes of plum and rum, it seems to me that the Va's in this blend are in the forefront. The Cavendish adds a bit of sweetness to the aftertaste, helping to round out the taste. As you get further down in the smoke, the initial sweetness is replaced by a rich spiciness reminiscent of a plumb pudding. However, I noticed as the flakes dried out, they lost these flavors quickly. The last bowl I smoked had lost most of these flavors and all I could really taste was the burleys.

-Other Notes-
At least to my experience, this flake likes to be a bit wet. It tastes better and burns cooler. The drier it is, the more flavor it looses and it definitely benefited from some rehydrating.

-Final Thoughts-
I really liked this flake the first few times I smoked it, but, as I mentioned above, my enjoyment faded quickly as it dried. This need to keep it wet, and therefore suffer some gurgle makes this tobacco slightly annoying. I probably will not buy it again for some time, mostly due to the sheer amount of flake I have yet to sample.
