A Great Blend!

This review is done from a fresh pouch of this blend and has no age on it.

The pouch aroma of this blend is sweet and smoky with a hint of tang. The sweetness stands out more than the smokiness and there is a heavy BBQ/BBQ sauce type of aroma. It smells really nice and I like it a lot. The moisture level is perfect for smoking without any drying time needed.

Right at the start I was shocked because it didn't taste like what I was expecting it to taste like. Based off of the tin aroma, I was expecting a bolder, in your face, smoky flavor. What I got was a sweeter, lighter flavor.

The main flavor that I get from this blend reminds me a lot of the flavor that I get from Mac Baren Plumcake, but it is lighter in this blend. I have never been able to describe the Mac Baren Plumcake flavor. It is like the Lakeland flavor as far as you have to taste it to know what someone is talking about. Although I am picking up on the flavor of Plumcake, Highland Blend is very different from that blend.

The Plumcake flavor is more subdued in this blend and there is more smokiness, body, and a BBQ/BBQ sauce type of flavor to it. There is a fair amount of sweetness to this blend. There is also a very nice finish that has the BBQ flavor and sweetness. I like this blend a lot!

Around the mid-bowl point; I still taste the Plumcake flavor, but it is even more subdued. At this point I taste more of the Scotch Whisky and the finish has changed as well. I still taste the sweetness, but the BBQ type flavor has faded out a lot and I taste more of the Scotch on the finish. This last change in flavor lasted through to the end.

While I have made some comparisons between HH Highland Blend and Plumcake, I do not want anyone to think that these blends are the same because they are not. I really like both blends and while there are some similarities, they both stand on their own as individual blends and should be recognized as such. Highland Blend has more body and smokiness to it as well as the flavor from the Scotch and the complex BBQ/BBQ sauce type of flavor that I detected from the Latakia that was used.

HH Highland Blend is a great Blend! It smokes cool, dry, and didn't bite me at all. Technically this is considered an aromatic blend, but I would say that it is a light aromatic that is done perfectly. I think that it will satisfy smokers of all genres and suggest that everyone try it at least once. I Highly Recommend it!
