A Perfect Smoke for Burley Fans
I have long been a fan of MacBaren tobaccos as they are easy on the wallet and of very high quality. That being said, I couldn't wait to rip into this tin, being a fan of both MacBaren and Burley smokes. Upon opening the tin, I am greeted with a heavy smell of raisins. The tin says that it is "Ready Rubbed" but I found that it needed a little extra work with the fingertips to get it to the perfect ribbon cut.The blend was a little moist out of the tin, but only needed about 15 to 20 minutes dry time before it was good to go. Once it was rubbed out, it loaded very easily. The first light gave a flavor of toasted nuts and slight wheat sweetness. The second light gave more of the toasted nut flavor with a slight bitterness of cocoa and coffee. The first half of the bowl had a nice toasted nut flavor with the wheat sweetness giving it nice depth. As the bowl progressed, the sweetness is subdued, but the toasted nutty flavor remained, and the further down the bowl I went, that slight bitter coffee flavor intensified and came together to produce a very tasty smoke. This was the first blend I have noticed that really sings in a cob, but it smokes very nicely in a briar as well. The blend burns down to a very dry ash and leaves no goop at all. It yielded absolutely no tongue bite even when puffed enthusiastically, at least for me. Bottom line: If you are a fan of Burley or MacBaren tobaccos, this is one that is not to be missed.
