Mac Barens' Dark Twist - Roll Cake
Well its finally getting sunny and warmer, been around in the upper 40,low 50's,yes for us in the Midwest its warm ,hell its short wearing weather lol. So to celebrate this nice weather I'm reviewing to day from Mac Baren's Dark Twist - Roll Cake.
Pipe used: Savinelli 614 full bend
Blend: Virginia, Cavendish
Type: Thin slices of spun tobacco, coins.
Tin size: 3.5
Tin Notes: Herbal/grassy hay like, mild
Taste: Mild sweetness from Virginia leaf, mild but not much of complexity or body to make it interesting
Strength: Mild to medium mild
Room Note: Grassy/hay notes, very mild, little bit of a acrid aroma.
Notes: Smell out of the can was hay like/grassy, somewhat pungent. Needs some dry time. The room note doesn't match the tin notes but it had some interesting aromas of cotton candy. Has a very neutral, mild room note. Had to relight it several times, not a very full bodied or complex blend. After a half a bowl it just got harsher and more of a tongue bite even if smoked slow and light pack didn't matter. Strength increased but not in a good way at all. Over all I don't think I'd buy it again. Its not too bad a smoke just not for my liking, you never know perhaps you all may enjoy it. Either way keep on puffin =)
The Wife's Review:
We had this one lit with friends over, the one swore cotton candy and I really could almost not smell it at all from across the room. It just didn't evoke a darn thought with me at all. I like when my hubby smokes a pipe that instantly transports me into somewhere or some time else.. and this really didn't do that at all... so I'll rate it "blah" to the Nth degree.. if your wife hates pipe smoke.. get this one because it has almost no odor for me.. I even had him come stand next to me and I got nothing...
