A Great VA/Per Blend!

This tobacco was new and fresh at the time of this review.

The pouch aroma (bulk) is a sweet, tangy, spicy, tobacco aroma with a hint of plums. The tanginess hints my nose and starts my mouth to watering. It smells great! The moisture level is perfect for smoking right away.

Right from the beginning this blend tasted great! It is a naturally sweet, straight forward tobacco flavor with a hint of tang to it. The Virginias are front and center right now with their sweet and tangy flavor while the Perique is far in the background.

At about the 3/4 point started working its way to the front and by mid-bowl, it was the star of the show with its pepper and spice flavor while the Virginias were playing back up with their sweetness.

As the bowl progressed, the pepper and spice from the Perique kept slowly building while the sweetness from the Virginias kept slowly fading.

I love this blend and it is one of my favorites! It smokes slow, cool, dry, and didn't bite. It has a great contrast in flavors and it doesn't get boring. This is an excellent VA/Per blend and I Highly Recommend it!

Good but not great VA/Per

La. Red is an attractive tobacco in the pouch, with ribbons of medium and darker red tobacco, along with a bit of dark perique. It's aroma is a vinegary sweetness typical of red virginia leaf. LR packs and lights pretty easily, with an average amount of relights.

The first thing I notice when lighting the bowl is the pepperiness of the perique, followed by the tangy sweetness of the VAs. This theme continues through the first half of the bowl, then the VAs begin to dominate. The taste loses some of its' sweetness in the bottom third of the bowl, something I wish would remain.

LR is a very good tobacco, but there are other VA/Pers that I enjoy more, including some in the Hearth and Home series. I do keep a half pound here on hand as I like to smoke a variety of blends.

LR is a solid blend but I have other VA/Pers I like better, including at least one in the Hearth and Home line (Anniversary Kake). Give it a try, you might find it to be a big winner for you.
