An Excellent VA/Per Blend

This tobacco had 8 months of age on it and was opened for that time when this review was done. I can't recall what the original moisture level was when I opened it.

The tin aroma is slightly sweet and very tangy with a hint of plums. There is also a note of darkness to it that I can't quite describe. There is a very small amount of Latakia in this blend (2% I think) and you have to really search for the aroma of it in the tin. I didn't smell it at first and I had to keep looking for it. After a few minutes, I picked up on a very faint hint of it.

At the start of the smoke the sweetness jumped right to the front and was accompanied by a light spice. The body of the smoke is a little fuller than most other VA/Per's that I have smoked. This could be due to the small amount of Latakia in the blend, which I do not taste or smell.

The spice kept moving to the front of the flavor as the bowl progressed and by the 3/4 point, the spice was the main flavor and the sweetness moved into the background.
Around mid-bowl I picked up on some very light hints of plum tartness. It did not last very long and disappeared as quickly as it came.
The last 1/4 of the bowl the sweetness moved back in and became more pronounced. From this point on, the spice and sweetness played evenly and in perfect harmony.

This is an excellent blend and I love it! It smoked slow, cool, dry, and didn't bite. It has a great, complex flavor profile that keeps it interesting. The finish is very pleasant and leaves a nice, clean sweetness. The smoke is full and creamy. The Latakia was added to perfection and I never tasted nor smelled it. I Highly Recommend it!

best of GLP to date

I've held one tin of Fillmore back for future enjoyment. We'll see what age might do for it.  This is, for me, a nice mid-day blend. By far the best of what I've tried from GLP. This won't win over my Rattray's business by any means, but it's a good VA - PER - blend none the less.
