Cut Blended Plug

Tin description: 'A light red Virginia flake, slightly sweet with natural flavoring'. Blended by Planta in Denmark, standard 50g tin.

Note: This tobacco is not an aromatic in terms of heavy added flavoring, but instead has a 'fragrant' flavoring putting it into the category of 'fragrant VAs' such as McClelland's Honeydew.

Presentation: Neatly stacked medium brown flakes.

Tin Aroma: Deep, earthy, musty, fermented fruit aroma.

Packing: Ready to smoke right out of the tin and easily packed using your favorite flake packing method, but works best for me when rubbed out.

Lighting: After a char light, the tobacco takes a full light well with perhaps only a re-light towards the bottom of the bowl.

Smoking & Flavor: The first few draws brings out the fragrant flavoring which is quite pungent and very different from anything else that I've smoked. Combined with the natural sweetness of the red VA, with what I can only describe as a fermented cherry-like flavor. CBP, like all flakes, performs best when smoked slowly and this one benefits from smoking very slowly to bring out the most flavor. This tobacco will bite and turn harsh if smoked any other way than s-l-o-w-l-y. It is mild in strength with very little or no nicotine at all and a body that is typical of a light VA.

Operator Error: I went through 1/2 the tin packing CBP as other flakes that I smoke tearing off bowl-deep pieces packing them vertically and the flavor profile went sour and ashen halfway through the bowl regardless of how slowly I smoked it. I was ready to write this one off when I realized that it might work out differently if I rubbed it out. Bingo. The flavor profile improved dramatically and stayed steady, although deepening, in the second half of the bowl, burning down to the bottom with little waste and just a bit of moisture.

Last Look: This is a very interesting tobacco that uses a natural floral flavoring added to a naturally sweet red VA creating a bridge between aros and straight VA flakes. I'll order another tin and see if the friendship lasts.
