New EMP a Great Smoke

I sampled several bowls of EMP from a tin I received at Christmas.  Wow! What a wonderful smoke.  I haven’t smoked EMP for many years, and the last several refused to pay the kind of prices being asked for it after it was pulled from the market.  So I was excited to get a tin of the re-issued blend.  It was more than I expected.  EMP had perfect moisture content upon opening and greets one with the smoky aroma of Latakia. (I know it’s said not to contain Latakia, and it may not, but it is certainly top dressed with the essence of Latakia and that smokiness is present throughout.)  I sometimes have trouble with Latakia coating my palate in an uncomfortable way.  EMP did not do this, and I liked it very much.  The interplay between the smoke, the Virginia leaf and Orientals was wonderful and complex.  It burned to a fine white ash, did not become unpleasant at the bottom of the bowl or overly moist.  EMP did not bite or heat up my briars.  I knew very quickly that it will be among my favorites.  I can highly recommend this Dunhill blend as “top shelf” to anyone who appreciates a fine English blend.

A Very Good Light Latakia Blend

This is a new tin from 2010.

The tin aroma is a nice tobacco smell with smoky, earthy, and sweet notes. The moisture level is good for smoking right away, but some drying time wouldn't hurt.

At the beginning of the smoke there is a nice tobacco flavor that has a very light smokiness to it. There is also a bit of spice to it and a nice sweetness in the background. As the bowl progressed, the sweetness kept slowly moving towards the front to balance out the spiciness. This flavor profile lasted from start to finish.

This is another really good blend from Dunhill. It smoked cool, dry, and didn't bite. It has a nice flavor profile. I think that it has enough body and substance to it that it could be an all day smoke for a lot of people. I Highly Recommend it!

Great Smoke

I agree with the reviews, a great smoke. Although I am sure it can be enjoyed all day, I start my day with it every morning. The notes are sweet, never over powering, and leaves a nice after taste. I can't recommend this smoke enough !!!
