Mississippi Mud
MM is a black cavendish, latakia, perique blend from C&D. Upon opening the tin the appearance is a little scary. Totally black. The cut has some big flakes but it packs very well. |

Tasty Smoke for a Special Occasion
Cornell and Diehl claims on the tin that this is "A cool smoke with a flavor unlike any other," and they stand true to their claim. Upon first opening this tin, I am greeted with a heavy leather smell and a smell that is almost like...well, mud, but it is a good smell. This blend was a little moist out of the tin and required about a half hour dry time before smoking. The coarse cut packed very easily. Upon the first light, I am greeted with a nice Earthy and leather flavor of Latakia. Upon the second light, I am greeted with more leather and a slight pepper flavor from the Perique. The first half of the bowl is a nice bitter coffee flavor, and the Perique starts to make its presence known. The Cavendish helps to cool out and mellow the blend, and the second half of the bowl is an even more intense coffee and cocoa flavor with strong pepper flavor as well. The previous reviewer said that he didn't notice the perique all that much. I don't know if my tin was more Perique heavy, but the Perique definitely made it's presence known, especially in the second half of the bowl, offering up an intense pepper flavor to compliment the Earthiness. This tobacco almost reminds me of spicy Cajun cuisine towards the bottom, the earthiness turning almost salty and the Perique making the blend spicy and just a little fruity. The blend burned down to a fine, dry ash. All in all, this is not something I could see myself smoking every day, but it is a very unique flavor and a very cool burning smoke that is great for special occasions, and might even be one of the only Latakia blends that I could see myself smoking when the weather turns warm. Not a daily smoke but highly recommended! |
