Runowski at his best.
Bayou Morning deserves recognition as a benchmark Vaper and an excellent example of the genre. My sampling comes from a bulk purchase that I put up in Mason jars in May, 2010. It is a coarse cut mix of brown tone and black leaves with a rich, sweet and musty aroma in the jar, presented at exactly the right moisture level.
It packs, lights and burns easily, producing a good volume of luxurious smoke with a dark, fruity character and great body, delivering a naturally sweet, dark flavor with good balance, clarity, and medium strength. The Perique rounds-out the dark side flavors and provides an inconspicuous peppery tingle in the nose. Overall it is a very smooth, satisfying smoke; not complex, but interesting none-the-less.
Bayou Morning smokes coolly and dryly, without gurgle, goop, dottle or bite; and it is no wonder that it is -- or should be -- a staple blend in the inveterate Vaper lover's usual rotation.
Over the past year I've been comparing the full range of variation in the Vaper genre, those with: Orientals, and Cavendish, and Burley, and deertongue; with lemon, and orange, and bright Va.'s and reds; the sweet, the tangy, the spicy, the woodsy, the musty and the savory; in numerous cuts and flake forms. Oh, it's so nice to get back to a classic Vaper as exemplified by Bayou Morning.
