Ashton Artisan's Blend

An english blend with the predominant role of Latakia.
A little "hazy" I thought, because of the negligible quantity of Perique. The small amount of Virginia causing a somewhat one-dimensional behavior.
The orientals add a subtle oily taste, that I think might be missing. Shortly drying is necessary to smoke it flawlessly. It burns evenly without overheating and without tongue bite.
Many people present it as a replacement for Dunhill Nightcap.

Artisan's Blend

This is a very good Latkia based English blend. The flavor is smotth and consistent throughout the bowl. If you prefer somethiing that changes constantly during the smoke you may want to look somewhere else. The tin aroma is pleasant upon opening, the tobacco is definately moist and a little drying time may be preferred. The room note is just what it is, tobacco. I smoked a bowl in my car one eveining and the smell was still there in the morning but it was gone by the end of the day. This is a nice smokey relaxing tobacco and will stay in my regular rotation. The tin was new, I will be interested to see how it evolves over time.

Ashton Artisian Update


Been smoking this a couple of months now and wanted to update my earlier review. The tobacco has continued to smoke well and the tin aroma has remained pleasant. I have noticed with a little age that the very smokey flavor has mellowed somewhat as has the room note.

Great English blend

Loaded my Peterson system 302 bent with this tobacco from a tin I 
have just 
acquired in a busiess trip to Liverpool. out of the tin, smell is 
pretty good, the 
traditional campfire latakia is fully there. lots of dark leaf in 
it... Charring light puts 
latakia in the full front and this continues steadily adding a 
stronger spicy 
characteristic as the bowl runs down. Pretty damn good stuff here. 
I only thik 
personally that adding a bit more of Virginias to the mix would 
give it a bit more 
sweetness, the latakia predominates here and so it tends to get 
monotone 
sometimes... Don't get me wrong here, i love latakia full blends 
but I guess his 
would benefit from just two pinches more of VAs...
