Boswell's Premium Burley

Opening my jar of 1 year 8 month old Boswell's Premium Burley revealed dull matt brown ribbons with a few black flecks scattered throughout.  It felt silky to the touch and a bit dry like I like it.  The smell of a sweet milk chocolate comes through initially and a deeper sniff brings a light nuttiness.

An unlit sip brought hardly anything to the palate, but every so often I thought I tasted a faint cocoa before the light.  The charring light brought a bit of the nuttiness of the burley, and occasionally a light floral sweetness.  Overall in small bowls, this blend reminded me of a certain famous chocolate syrup, in bigger bowls a borderline bitter dark chocolate taste came through.  Either way it was a pretty good breakfast blend and was great with the bitter coffee I like.  It was definitely slow and clean burning like the description on Boswell's website.  The finish was very short leaving a slight sweet dark cocoa taste on the tongue.  The room note was pretty pleasant and toasty, though I only smelled it when getting in my vehicle on a cold night after smoking in it on breaks and during lunch.

This was an okay blend, nothing to get real excited about from what I could tell.  I liked that it didn't scorch my tongue at all, and that it didn't overly sweeten my palate like some Cavendish blends tend to do.  I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a light, clean, and easy aromatic.

Hey Jim love the pipe and the Burley Redd

Hey JM thanks for the tilted pipe I got from u on ebay.

I only fill it with your burley blend or other American blends when I runnign low on yorus. Redd

When it comes to a good burley with a good flavor and room note . This Simple Nutty burley blend is not bland it has a bit of spunk as far as the nicotine level but not to high.

I truley love this blend it is simple but not to simple to ever loose interest in.It is a perfection in blending in the utmost form.

Packs well lites easy. Get better on relighing it.

It ages even better leave it in your desk for a month unopened.

because it is made freash it needs to marry a bit to get the full richness of this great blend.

This is the blend to convert you to a burleyphile.

Great burley with a divine room note

Boswell's Premium Burley in the pouch has a mixture of brown burleys with some black Cavendish mixed in. The pouch aroma is a pleasant sweet smell that reflects its' nice room note. The cut is a chopped ribbon that packs and lights well with good burning characteristics.

BPB has a burley nuttiness with an overlying sweetness that is very pleasant to the taste buds. The taste stays pretty consistent most of the way down, with the sweetness perhaps fading just a bit in the bottom of the bowl.

Pricewise, BPB is reasonable for a high quality blend at $1.95/oz. J.M. uses very good leaf in his blends.

Scores for BPB: taste- 17 of 20; lighting and burn- 8 of 10; value- 8 of 10. 33 points equals a **** score for Boswell's Premium Burley. It is now a staple in my tobacco cabinet.

footnote; Boswell's Premium Burley is now up to $2.70/oz. Normally I would deduct a point for value but most premium tobaccos have also gone up during the same time period. It still remains one of my favorite burley blends.

Boswell's Premium Burley

Flavour -- I detect no casing. The blend of burleys and some cavendish give a subtle hint of cashews and pistachios with regard to the nuttiness of this burley blend.

Recommendation -- I recommend this blend highly. This is a rather mild to medium burley blend in its nicotine strength. But it will appeal to anyone who appreciates the subtleties of 'nuttiness' which make up the burley leaf; this blend is all about letting the burley speak for itself. I think this blend would appeal to some (like this reviewer) who enjoy the smokiness of latika in english blends. This is due to the fact, that in addition to conveying amazing notes of cashews etc., this burley blend also does get across a slight note of cedar. Now this cedar is very subtle and faint, but it is soothingly in the retro-inhale and slightly detectable in the jar. It has therefore a slightly 'woody' smokiness on the palate that those who enjoy the latika in english blends might find utterly but subtly magnificent, although less 'sweet'.

Room note -- Tolerable like burning hay.

Tin tone -- as noted, this blend is woody, grassy and nutty -- much like cedar and pistachios.

This burley blend has become a favourite all-round anytime tobacco for me.
