New EMP a Great Smoke
I sampled several bowls of EMP from a tin I received at Christmas. Wow! What a wonderful smoke. I haven’t smoked EMP for many years, and the last several refused to pay the kind of prices being asked for it after it was pulled from the market. So I was excited to get a tin of the re-issued blend. It was more than I expected. EMP had perfect moisture content upon opening and greets one with the smoky aroma of Latakia. (I know it’s said not to contain Latakia, and it may not, but it is certainly top dressed with the essence of Latakia and that smokiness is present throughout.) I sometimes have trouble with Latakia coating my palate in an uncomfortable way. EMP did not do this, and I liked it very much. The interplay between the smoke, the Virginia leaf and Orientals was wonderful and complex. It burned to a fine white ash, did not become unpleasant at the bottom of the bowl or overly moist. EMP did not bite or heat up my briars. I knew very quickly that it will be among my favorites. I can highly recommend this Dunhill blend as “top shelf” to anyone who appreciates a fine English blend.

My go to English Blend
Everybody can't be wrong, and every review I've read about this blend all agree it's a great smoke, and I can not agree more. This is by far the most delightful English I've smoked. Whether its the actual Dunhill brand or the copy cat by Match, you will not be disappointed. It is definitely a wonderful morning smoke, but anytime of the day is right for EMP.

Holy smoke!
Firstly let me say that the most important thing in your pipe smoking arsenal is patience! Unfortunately when I first took up the pipe I didnt understand this and crashed my way through many fine tobaccos, dismissing them as having too much this or not enough that and assigning many half tins to the back of a drawer. My first venture into English blends was with Petersons Old Dublin and it nearly put me off. Two bowls and the tin went into the drawer, I thought never to be seen again. Luckily my tobacconist (may the sun always shine down on him) convinced me to try Early Morning Pipe, which I did, because I was smoking most of my bowls in the mornings. Thank goodness he did. I won't waffle on about the quality of the sweet Virginia's or the spiciness of the fine orientals and cool smokyness that the latakia adds because with Dunhill it goes without saying. So why do I love this blend, it's because as the name suggests, when smoked peacefully, first thing in the morning, this tobacco will reward you with a cool, sweet, soft smoke that slowly builds up towards the bottom of the bowl, smothering your tongue with loads of flavours and finally leaving you wishing you owned more pipes so you could have another bowl straight away. I was an ardent straight Virginia smoker before trying E M P, not really getting on with aromatics and the like, but this stuff turned me on to English mixes in a big way and now I'm revisiting Old Dublin and loving it. Anyway back to E M P, what can I say, if you love really good tobacco, try it. Fill your pipe first thing in the morning, make a large coffee, sit back and enjoy a near religious experience!!
